In a collaborative effort to enhance customer service skills and workplace empathy, the Centre for Homeownership and Economic Development (CHOEDC), together with Mayor Deborah James of Gaston, NC, Turningpoint Workforce Department Board, and NC Works of Halifax County, recently organized a transformative customer service training workshop for local businesses on September 24, 2024, in Gaston, NC.

We were thrilled to partner with DGMcGee Enterprises, a professional development company based in Eastern North Carolina, to provide this impactful training, aimed at entrepreneurs looking to scale their businesses. The focus of the workshop was mastering workplace conflict resolution and understanding how empathy impacts work culture—two critical components that significantly affect business success, especially for those who have faced challenges with low customer service ratings.

Highlights of the Workshop:

  • Enhancing Conflict Resolution Skills: Participants engaged in one-on-one and group sessions that provided practical strategies for managing workplace conflicts effectively.
  • Building Emotional Intelligence: Attendees learned the importance of emotional intelligence in customer interactions, helping them better understand and respond to customer needs.
  • Developing Leadership Skills: The training also focused on building leadership capabilities, enabling business owners to lead by example and foster a culture of empathy and respect.

Forty small to medium-sized businesses took part in this training, benefiting from hands-on exercises and valuable insights that they can implement in their daily operations. The entrepreneurs expressed their appreciation for the workshop’s practical approach, emphasizing how the lessons learned will help improve customer service ratings, increase sales conversions, and ultimately contribute to business growth.
